During the latest two releases we added a new protocol called “NGP” (Next Generation Protocol) in which we fixed some shortcomings of the previous protocol (GMPP/NET). While the old protocol will be maintained for some time, the new one will be the focus of development and new features will mostly land there.
The new protocol features some exciting new features like a handshake phase that allows enabling SSL encryption or streaming compression when connecting. A more robust timeout detection. And exchangnable binary encodings in the message. Also are the package serialization methods not manually coded anymore but are generated based on an EMF based model.
Now of course one idea during the design was, that if the protocol is described in EMF a documentation can also be
auto-magically generated 🙂
It is not complete and will grow in the next few days. Have fun!
